Black Friday truly Black for Retailers

The holiday shopping season is off to a rough start, as a number of retailers see some of the lowest “Black Friday” sales in years. No surprise there, of course. Today’s middle class family barely has enough money to keep food on the table and gas in the car, much less blow a thousand bucks on one day of Christmas shopping.

After poor sales on the day after Thanksgiving, retailers geared up to make up for the low turnout with “Cyber Monday”. Cyber Monday is the nickname given the first Monday after Thanksgiving, by the National Retail Federation group, and with today’s economy, the average consumer is being made more aware of the idea: Holding off on Black Friday, and buying what you need online on Monday, so as to dodge the crowds and find better deals.

But Cyber Monday didn’t do so well for retailers, either, even with unprecedented price drops on hot items, shoppers are still waiting for the prices to drop even further so that they can finish that shopping list without spending an arm and a leg.

...And prices probably will continue to drop, as retailers become more desperate to bait the hook for economy-weary shoppers.

Of course, if everyone would just invest in Gold Eagles, this wouldn’t be such a problem. It’s not so much that the cash isn’t there to spend, it’s that nobody feels secure spending it, and Christmas morning comes out a little on the skinny side. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for your kids, may we recommend a few Gold Eagles? That sounds like a joke, what kid wants Gold Eagles for Christmas? But, December 2^nd closed at 781.30 for the metal, and there’s really no better gift you can get the kids than an investment in their future.
